Yesterday, Friday... I finished my early shift and went to visit haunted spots and pachinko parlors!

So, this time's haunted spot is here!

When I searched for haunted spots in Shiga Prefecture on the Internet, a place called Shigai Forest came up on almost every site. Moreover, several sites listed it as the scariest in Shiga Prefecture, and for some reason, the forest was left alone in a corner of the surrounding area where fields and farmland spread out. I heard it was an execution site during the time of Oda Nobunaga? (゜-゜) Yes, this sounds very interesting~♪ So, let's go!

Shigai Forest is 1.7 km (21 minutes on foot) from JR Azuchi Station in Shiga Prefecture. The ruins of Azuchi Castle are nearby.

When I enlarged the map... I see, it does indeed seem like a forest standing alone in the middle of a field area. Apparently, the official name is Shinkai Forest. Why is it called Shigai Forest?

So, we got on the Shin-kaisoku train bound for Maibara and set off! The Shin-kaisoku train doesn't stop at Azuchi, so we changed to a local train at Yasu on the way.

We arrived at Azuchi Station!

There is a statue of Oda Nobunaga in front of the station.

From the station, we followed the navigation system and headed northwest. The area around the station has many buildings with tiled roofs and white walls, creating a retro townscape.

It was a pretty nice townscape. After passing through the retro area and walking for a while, we finally reached the rice field area.

We crossed Prefectural Route 2 and were 5 minutes away from our destination!

We could see Shigai Forest! The rice field area is dark with no streetlights, so we put on the usual LED light on our heads and headed forward. Hmm? ... I feel like the wind is getting stronger? There are only rice fields and nothing to block the wind, so it's getting a little cold.

Finally arrived at Shigai Forest! The trees in the forest are rustling in the wind.

I got goosebumps for a moment, but maybe it was the sound of bamboo rustling in the wind? Probably (^^;)

There was a stone monument in the center of the forest.

It's a small forest, but the trees are blocking the wind that was blowing just a moment ago, so the wind doesn't blow in surprisingly far into the forest.

Hmm, rather than a haunted spot, I feel like I'm protected by the forest. Well, I don't think there's anyone else who'd come here alone at night lol

So, it was a 5km walk between stations from Azuchi Station to Omihachiman Station via Shinkai no Mori. Tch!! I shouldn't have made that detour (to the pachinko parlor).
